How Vera works
Vera helps you discover organizations serving your Florida community and understand their work using available public information. It is free, requires no account, and does not collect or process donations.
Choose a county, then a cause
The county filter uses verified service coverage from askcora.org. An organization can appear because it serves your county even if its headquarters is elsewhere. Leave causes blank to include all causes, or choose several to match any of them.
Donation pages
“Only show organizations with a donation page” starts unchecked. Turn it on to show organizations with a current, verified, publicly approved giving page. This filter is applied before results are counted and paged. With it off, all otherwise matching organizations remain visible. Donate opens an approved giving page; Website opens the official homepage when no donation page is available. Where a fiscal sponsor receives donations, the donation recipient is identified. These links leave Vera, and Vera does not process payments or confirm tax deductibility.
Organization types
Choose Nonprofit Organizations, Churches & Faith-Based Organizations, or Other Community Organizations. An organization may match more than one type. All types includes organizations whose type has not yet been established; an unknown type is not labeled Other. At least one type must be selected. Vera’s directory excludes government, for-profit and other provider types outside its current scope.
Understand the results
Each organization appears once per result list, even if it offers several matching services. Results are alphabetical, not a ranking. Inclusion is not an endorsement or a judgment about charitable worthiness.
Programs and public information
Profiles use published askcora.org programs and services. Available financial information and documented historical awards come from Margo’s public research records. Unsupported sections are omitted; their absence does not mean zero revenue or no grant support.
Financial overview
Form 990 figures are shown for the tax years available, with revenue, expenses and an IRS filings link below the table, with a copyable EIN when available. A filing’s tax year may differ from its publication year. Gaps in filing years are not filled with estimates. These figures do not constitute a charity score.
Documented grant awards
Only documented, verified public historical awards are included. The list may not be comprehensive. Private grant-management work, pending applications and customer pipelines are not part of Vera.
Tax status and giving
A verified IRS 501(c)(3) badge appears only when supported by the public contract, independently of the organization’s displayed type. It does not confirm the deductibility of a particular gift. Vera links to organization websites and approved donation pages. Donations are handled by the external destination.
Use and share profiles
Explore opens an organization profile with a shareable URL. On a wider screen, the profile opens beside your results. Close it or use your browser’s Back button to return to the same search. On a phone, it fills the screen. You can also open a profile link directly.
